Over the years many countries have claimed to be the womb from where chess has originated, but no one has been able to come up with a solid proof of their own to settle them as the predecessor of the other in this race. Egypt, Greece, China are the forerunners in this run of settling themselves in the top as the nation from where chess has born, but surprisingly Ireland also is claiming so.
But if somebody goes down in history one can come to a conclusion that chess might have been evolved somewhere around the 6th century in Ancient India and then through the route Persia has reached Europe. It reached America at the very end in its process of spreading globally.
A word has its own history of evolution and so has the word “chess” itself. There are many interpretations of how it came into practice but the most popular is its Persian derivation. The word “chess”, believed by many is an altered pronunciation of Persian word “shah”. Also “checkmate” is told to be the other form of Persian “shah mate”.
The Royal Game of Chess has a noteworthy influence in the evolution of games as it is completely different from all other physical sports and is totally inclined over skillful playing and strategy based moves, it is not just luck dependent. Its main goal is focused around developing mental abilities of a person.
‘Chaturanga’ or Ancient Indian Chess as it is named is one of the oldest forms of the game itself. But Chinese people do not go with this concept very well according to them Chaturanga is much poorer then their version of chess i.e. Go. As per them their version is much tougher then the Indian one and much older too. One point is there that truly makes China the forerunner in this race with India and i.e. the use of dice in the game. In Chaturanga, two dices were used while playing whereas no usage of dice is there in Chinese form. This undoubtedly makes the Chinese version closer with the modern ‘ Chess ‘ concept.
