Interesting Chess Facts
Whether you play chess using a wooden chess set or a 21st century electronic chess device, or even by playing virtually on your computer, you are playing a fascinating and history-rich game. There are many intriguing little tidbits about chess.
For one thing, chess probably originated about 5,000 years ago in what is today India, and the first chess game was probably the Indian game of Chaturanga. Chaturanga is a strategy game played on a tiled or checkered board, as chess is, and the whole idea is to capture the opponent’s king. However, Chaturanga could be played by up to four players at once. There were “ships” and “chariots” involved and dice were used. A player did not start the game with as many pieces as the modern chess player does, either. But these differences aside, chess and Chaturanga are remarkably similar, with the latter probably being the original version of the former.

Even things that have been around since before the middle ages, things no one thought would ever change have been influenced by the internet. The internet has even forced the game of chess to evolve.
It has long been accepted that chess is a game for intellectuals. In order to be a good chess player a person has to have a strong grasp of mathematics and battle strategy. A really good chess player has an innate ability to predict what their opponent will do, and is able to make a preemptive strike. Many historians believe that the game of chess was first created in Persia, not as a game, but as an actual battle planning activity. Eventually the game moved to Europe where it was changed and eventually become the game we know and enjoy today.
